Description

SUZUKI TS185A

1976  with frame and engine numbers matching that age.

DVLA registered as HISTORIC VEHICLE.

Tax and MOT exempt.  "Taxed"  and therefore on the road for test drive.

In regular occasional use and in excellent condition. Ideal for someone who wants a classic two-stroke to actually use.

The recorded mileage is under 4,000. That may be true but cannot be proven.

This bike is partially restored to a very high standard for practical use:

Powder coated frame and swinging arm.

New wiring loom. All electrical items work and a new Motobatt battery is fitted. The alternator operates as it should and charges the battery.

Rebuilt wheels with polished rims and stainless spokes.

New trail tyres. Still have the pips on.

All alloy chassis parts and chrome parts are as new.

Stainless fasteners throughout.

New cables throughout, together with the correct period grips.

New chrome mirrors.

Fully restored and polished carburettor.

Rebuilt and re-painted engine. Starts first kick and runs perfectly including the autolube system which has new oil lines. I did not do this work but I stripped the top end to check it when I bought the bike.  The engine is on standard bore and standard port timing.   (I have built racing two-strokes in the past )

The exhaust is as new.  The silencer/spark arrester is scraped but repainted. Good luck finding one!

The tank and side panel (they only have one) are painted to match a pair of period "Preston Petty" mudguards that were fitted in the day by people who intended to actually go off-road. The paint is not absolutely perfect but the overall effect is very pretty.

The seat is perfect, both base and cover.

Chain and sprockets are perfect.

Wheel bearings, swinging arm bearings and head race bearings are perfect.

THE BAD BITS

The front brake is pathetic.  It needs new shoes lined with something better than the original Suzuki linings fitted. Fortunately the back brake is really good.

The forks oil seals both weep...but consequently the chrome stanchions are perfect.

There are no indicators fitted. The (new) wiring is all there and you can get the correct pattern period items for £40 a set on e-bay.  I have a set...but I also have another bike that requires them!

The spark arrester is scraped.

All in all a really nice condition bike which is perfect for immediate use. To fully restore as factory would require a pair of mudguards, a rear light unit and a repaint of tank and side panel, but why do it when this is such a pretty little bike as is?

Why am I selling it?  I bought two classic Suzuki trail bikes last year with the intention of "sorting them out", using them a bit, and then keeping only one. I have decided to keep the other one, an SP400. It is much less pretty, slower, has an awful clutch, the wrong indicators and is a b*****d to start,  but I realise that I prefer four strokes. Getting old I suppose.
